Prompt injection
The agent reads things other people wrote: an email, a web page, an issue comment, an MCP server's output. Any of those can contain instructions aimed at it.
The premise here is that the model will eventually follow one. Nothing in a system prompt reliably prevents that, so the guard does not try. It limits what a turn can do after it has read something untrusted, and makes an attempt visible instead of silent.
Marking untrusted output
Output from a source carrying other people's words — a mail client, curl, wget, any MCP tool — is wrapped before the model sees it:

This repository is public, so a fixed marker would be a password printed in the source: the email would close the block itself and everything after it would read as trusted again. Anything already shaped like a marker is defaced before wrapping, so a forged one never reaches the model to be reasoned about.
Limiting what happens next
Reading untrusted content marks the session tainted. From then on, the handful of actions that turn a bad suggestion into a lasting problem are refused:

Enforcement is tainted-only on purpose. A session writing code in a repository never meets any of this; the rules apply exactly where the risk appeared.
A refusal is logged and the agent is told to say it was refused rather than to find another route.
What this does not do
These are heuristics, and the rules are public. Somebody who already has code execution can work around a pattern list — the point is to make the easy path stop working.
The unsolved layer is egress. The container has unrestricted outbound network, so anything that runs can reach anywhere. Closing that means dropping host networking and putting the portal behind a proxy that only permits known destinations.
The strongest version is not giving it a shell
An allowlist beats a blocklist. A session that only needs to read email should have tools shaped like reading email, not bash — see Allowed anyway for the same idea applied to teammates.
People are a separate layer
The guard also enforces what a teammate may do, checked per tool call so it follows whoever is speaking. That is documented under People.
